The water surface in the tanks becomes covered with white bacterial scum when medaka are reared without flowing water. We remove the scum using an oil absorbent sheet or a Kim-wipe before feeding every morning, because the scum prevents powdered feed from spreading on the water surface of the tanks and prevents the medaka from eating the feed.
